Authentic Design and Construction Guide

Hieronymus

Inspired by emerging radio technology of the 1930s, electrical engineer Galen Hieronymus introduced variable capacitor tuning and vacuum tubes. Although the resulting twin 0-100 dial system was quicker to operate, its rate library eventually needed to be padded out with quarter increment settings to accommodate an ever-expanding scope of usage. In addition to boosting output, the amplifier's three stages inverted any tuned negative condition, thereby automatically outputting a remedial influence.

Design Analysis

The dots above correspond with similarly colored cells in the table below. In total, the column headings span a range of prospective functional stages. Beneath each is a column of design choices associated with this type of instrument. While retaining consistency of purpose, some can be interchanged with those on the De la Warr page.

Gray shading indicates the minimum practical componentry for a complete device. "Pot" is shorthand for potentiometer. "Cap" for capacitor. "Coupling" and "Load comp" headings apply only to engineered impedance matching of stock audio amplifiers.

Electronic Crop Spraying

This design philosophy was adapted for commercial agriculture by other radionic pioneers. As shown by the patent drawing below, a flat metal plate substituted for the glass well. Upon it was placed a B&W photo-negative of the plants or land area to be treated, along with a contained sample of reagent known to produce the desired effect. Because molecular radiations unique to the latter constituted the entire influence, these units required no tuning dials or corrective inversion of the output "signal".

Sample Circuit

Readers with formal electronics training might find the diagram below unusual. However, it is a true rendition of the standard portable unit manufactured by Hieronymus during the late 1960's; also shown in three gallery photos below. Most notably, he replaced vacuum tubes with an equal number of modern JFET transistors. Because variable half-plate capacitors are now scarce, we have updated their function using potentiometers. Note that the "Intensity" dial is for analysis only and remains at "0" during broadcast. The momentary switch pole labelled "neutralize" was intended to clear residual energies prior to each new session.

Software Simulation

The two amplifers below appear to function almost identically. However, the Hieronymus version (right) phase inverts the signal prior to the transformer, which then "remedies" it through a second inversion. Overall, the amplifier does not increase peak-to-peak voltage of the input signal, but instead provides current gain to drive the coil beneath the stick plate.

The following images showcase the abundance of spin-offs upon Hieronymus' basic methodology. He termed the rarified energy involved "eloptic"based upon observation of coinciding electrical and optical properties.

For confirmation purposes, this drawing shows the soldered connections to the JFET circuit board visible in the corresponding images above.
